It is common for families to be told while in the hospital that their loved one no longer qualifies for an acute level of care. This can be a very confusing statement when the patient is on a life support system.

Once the acute phase of the illness is over and the patient is considered stable the hospital will refer you to a Skilled Nursing ventilator care program.

Ventilator dependent residents are among the most clinically complex patients at the Plaza Regency. For our program we have combined Technology with professional loving care to assist you or your loved one with Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Our 28-bed ventilator unit is overseen by our Respiratory Medical Director who is a Board Certified Pulmonologist. Our Team of Respiratory and Rehabilitation Therapists along with Registered and Licensed Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants provide 24 hour 7 day a week specialized services and care for each resident.

The focus of The Plaza Regency Ventilator program is total rehabilitative respiratory care including Full Weaning Protocols. Rehabilitation occurs in a comfortable state of the art environment. We stress quality of life activities for all patients in our care. We utilize home ventilation equipment to enhance the mobility of our patients. We will train family members to accompany our patients both in and outside of the facility. For those patients and families desiring to return to the community we arrange family education for home ventilator care. When total weaning and home placement is not possible our chronic care program provides the comfort and safety our patients and there loved ones require, as we move each patient, slowly towards the maximum reduced dependence they can achieve.
