The Plaza Regency and Swann Dialysis have created the only facility in Nevada to offer Dialysis treatments within a Skilled Nursing complex. At Plaza Regency our dialysis patients are never transported to an outside unit. Under a contractual arrangement Swann Dialysis leases space within the Plaza Regency and provides treatments to facility residents. Both organizations retain responsibility for their admission, discharges and overall patient care. Both organizations have developed center-specific administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Dialysis treatment records are maintained in the dialysis unit and in the resident facility chart, facilitating communication and coordination between the two entities responsible for patient care. The unit operates six days a week.
Some of the advantages of the on site concept are:
- Shorter lengths of stay because facility residents have been able to complete their rehabilitative program more quickly and return home sooner.
- Dialysis patients have been able to attend therap sessions more consistently, participate more actively and achieve their treatment goals faster.
- Choice in the scheduling of treatment sessions has strengthened patient autonomy.
- Patients receiving dialysis on site can participate more fully in facility activities.
- Family visiting has been made easier.
- Patients' nutrition has improved and desirable weights have been maintained.
